Eye Opener

eye-opener

The key to open your eyes is ‘THINKING’………….~Sajjad Hussain

Since I started writing blogs, I kept surmising, why until now, I never thought about the things happening around me, as I am now thinking.

The answer is quite simple; before, I was living for the sake of living; now, I am living with a purpose in my life. So, if you want to understand the purpose of your life, start THINKING, and you will be shocked to see the symbols around, leading you to the very purpose of your life. Finding the meaning of life is, to give life a meaning, and a meaningful life, is hidden inside knowledge, which is available for free all around us, the only thing required on our part is, to open up our eyes, and see for ourselves.

The other day I was sitting idle in my room, enjoying my vacations at home, after a hectic semester at the university. Usually in our pensive mood, we close our eyes to go into the past, I did the same, to recall my interaction with my students.

Though it was 11 am in the morning and there was a bright sun shining in the sky and there was ample light in the room, but when I closed my eyes, it was complete darkness.

I am wondering to know what is unusual about it. Nothing as such, because it is obvious that when we close our eyes we are bound to see darkness, as retina behind our eyes is not being hit by the cones of photo-receptors getting the light.

I am bound by the tag line of my blogs, i.e. “Life as EYE see” and as in my signature blog Silent Vibes: Voice of My Mind, I wrote that I will be writing unusual experiences of my life in my blogs.

‘Ignorance’ and ‘Knowledge’ are usually depicted by two colors ‘Black’ and ‘White’ and when it is night, its darkness [black] around us and during day time, it is light [white] all around.

When it is night and there is no light, and my eyes are wide open, even then, it will be difficult for me to see things around me. But when its day time and if I don’t want to see something, I simply have to close my eyes and its all dark.

What I am trying to say is that knowledge and ignorance both are ubiquitous, for keeping ourselves ignorant, we don’t have to strive i.e. even during day time when we are able to see unusual things happening all around us, we seldom care to see to find inside meanings. So it is not the EYES, which need to be open to see the invisible, we have to open our MIND as well, as it has the capability to see the abstract realities of life.

If I don’t want to explore the world around, I simply have to close my eyes and I am done with avoiding the knowledge [light], for finding the meaning of life, I have to learn to seek knowledge by opening my MIND along with the EYES. To say the least, I have to keep my eyes (mental eyes) wide open [be it ignorance (night) or knowledge (day)] to see  knowledge [light].

And ‘Thinking’ is the key, an ‘Eye Opener’ to get you into the wide ocean of knowledge away from ignorance.

Cherished Possessions

x3

The idea to write this blog came to my mind, while I was responding to a question on Quora. The question was, “What do 50-year-olds know that 20-year-olds often don’t? And here is my answer which I have put in this blog.

Today while coloring my beard, I came to an unusual analogy, amazingly different then what I ever thought. I like to look young because it gives me strength to face the odds of life, so I color my hairs. By the way I am having less hairs on my head, which in fact made me think of the situation unusually.

In my 20s my hairs and beard were of dark black color, now down the line in my life, I have to color my hair and beard to look young. The question which would pop up in your mind will be, what is unusual about it (it’s very much normal) and when you raise this question you are rightly justified in coming up with the question.

My analogy in this whole story is that while you are in your 20s, normally you have less possessions, not because you don’t like to have them but because you don’t have spent enough time by virtue of your age to accumulate those possessions which you liked to have.

Contrary to this, usually you have more (if you lived your life normally based on your job, qualification, savings and experience) worldly possessions then you actually need. You do accumulate them not because you need them but because you have to save them for the rainy days.

If you don’t have quite a few life obligations to meet, you become less possessive as compared to someone in his/her early 20s.

‘Ignorance’ is depicted by ‘Black’ color and ‘Knowledge’ by ‘White’. So, when you are in your early 20s, you actually are more ignorant then knowledgeable, which is rightly quoted by someone that ‘Life is a journey from Ignorance to Knowledge’, so when you are ignorant you are more inclined towards engaging yourself into acquiring more worldly possessions. You come to realize the true essence of life only, when you have gone through bitter experiences, which compel you to think that the real life starts when you have exhausted all your resources to live a life, worth living.

According to ‘Maslow’s Thoery of Need’, in later stages of your life, you actually start thinking about ‘Self Actualization’, which is the true meaning of life, which you can’t even imagine in your early 20s.

That’s is one of the reasons why, mostly people after retirement opt for social work and charity, because now they have realized the fact that it is now time for them to give back to the society what they got from the society until now. Yet we see people like Mark Zuckerberg, who in his 20s made fortune, but understood the meaning of life at this tender age and donated his possessions to reach to the level of ‘Self Actualization’.

If you manage to capitalize on this understanding in your early 20s, then I think by the time, you cross your half century, you will be far ahead of me, and that’s how you will grow.

So, to conclude my blog, I would say, when the color of your hair turns to white from black, you start losing quite a few of your cherished possessions, like beauty and freshness of your face, your eye sight, and you are faced with other health related issues. At this time, you are left with nothing but cherished memories from your gleaming past, if you have lived it to fulfill your dreams, else it’s nothing but a feeling of remorse to live, yet another life.

Operations Manual

Whenever I buy electronic gadgets, I find something really amazing, that with every such purchase, included in the pack is an operations manual, which I have never used prior to operating that gadget, as most of the time, I have a fair idea as to how to operate it.

I think the operations manual is included in the pack for every one to make use of it and get a thorough understanding of the gadget operation. If we manage to operate the gadget according to the manual, we may increase the life of the gadget.

In almost all the religions of the world, we see that, they all have their divine scriptures in the form of guidelines for living life. Which in a way, we can say is the the Operations Manual for Humans. But we, as Humans, seldom make use of those scriptures to mold our lives, according to the guidelines written in them.

holy_books_title

If somehow, we manage to make use of the divine scriptures, in those holy books, I think we can make our lives longer as the gadget’s life is increased through proper use of the gadget according the operations manual for that gadget. By “increasing the life”, I don’t mean physical life, I mean we can make our lives immortal because we will be living according to HIS will and HE will make our name immortal in the history, due to our good deeds for the humanity.

My this blog is not for or against any particular religion, I am talking in a very generalized terms for all of the religions. As almost all the religions talk of humanity, and human values, which we as humans have to learn to respect.

Buoyancy

In science, buoyancy is an upward force exerted by a fluid that opposes the weight of an immersed object. In a column of fluid, pressure increases with depth as a result of the weight of the overlying fluid.

A deep thought on this effect would lead us to an amazing concept of how these scientific concepts have a direct relevance with our lives. I am not giving any different meaning to these rules, rather I am just looking at these principles differently to enhance my own understanding of life, to justify the title of my blog, which says “Life as EYE see it”.

Water has a buoyancy effect, i.e. if anything is dropped into the water, it will be bounced back on to its surface due to upward thrust. The more the weight of the object, the more will be the upward thrust of the water. Now if we make an analogy with knowledge, knowledge also has a buoyancy effect, i.e. the more you immerse yourself into knowledge, the more it will help you rise from your level.

And when you rise from your level, you are able to see what is invisible to others and thus it increases your understanding of the hidden meanings of life.

Education and Knowledge

Picture1

In this series of blogs, I will be trying to make analogy of Water with Knowledge to understand quite a few concepts based on my observation. But before we go into the details, let me explain you the difference between Education and Knowledge first to make a ground for my forthcoming blogs on WATER. (www.dictionary.com)

EDUCATION:

  1. the act or process of imparting or acquiring general knowledge, developing the powers of reasoning and judgment, and generally of preparing oneself or others intellectually for mature life.
  2. the act or process of imparting or acquiring particular knowledge or skills, as for a profession.
  3. a degree, level, or kind of schooling:university education.
  4. the result produced by instruction, training, or study: to show one’s education.
  5. the science or art of teaching; pedagogy.

KNOWLEDGE:

  1. acquaintance with facts, truths, or principles, as from study or investigation; general erudition: knowledge of many things.
  2. familiarity or conversance, as with a particular subject or branch oflearnineg.: A knowledge of accounting was necessary for the job.
  3. acquaintance or familiarity gained by sight, experience, or report: a knowledge of human nature.
  4. the fact or state of knowing; the perception of fact or truth; clear and certain mental apprehension.
  5. awareness, as of a fact or circumstance: He had knowledge of her good fortune.
  6. something that is or may be known; information: He sought knowledge of her activities.
  7. the body of truths or facts accumulated in the course of time.

From the definition above, it is clear that there is difference between education and knowledge. Education is something, which is acquired by virtue of the process of formally going through school, college or university. Based on the education so acquired, if one makes use of his mind and tries to understand the hidden meaning behind any phenomenon, it turns into his knowledge. Now this knowledge is his and the depth of it is only known to him and him alone. However, he can share it with his friends and students and acquaintances, but it is not necessary that whosoever is listening to him is going to perceive the depth of the knowledge, as he has. I (can be you or anyone) on my part will process that knowledge, to make a meaning understood by me. The knowledge so acquired is going to be my knowledge and not his.

If we look into the premise so defined, it can be said that education is something for which we have to pay a price in monetary terms whereas knowledge is something which is available for free in nature by virtue of the gift of Observation, Feel, Touch, and Sense. Although, knowledge is freely available, still we have to pay the price to acquire it, but the price is not in monetary terms, it’s through making use of the Mind.

Now I can safely say that education costs you money whereas knowledge is free. My next blog will be titled ‘WATER’ and I will try to explain the analogy between Water and Knowledge.

Life as EYE see

aseyeseeit-img

Since I started teaching Ethics, my mind started boggling to understand the meaning of life. During this awkward (in the eyes of many of us) journey of exploring the ‘SELF’, I came up with the idea, being shared here under:

According to the Darwin’s Theory of Natural Selection, we are progeny of animals. Animals do have some IQ, but when they are trained to a certain level, even the wildest of beasts behave in a tamed manner, but their (animal’s) inner beastly instinct returns sometimes and they behave as they are supposed to, even after being trained to behave properly.

Same is true with humans, almost all the babies when born they do have a reasonable understanding about the world around them, due to their inbuilt IQ. After having gone through the process of learning through observation, parents, environment, and friends etc. they are trained to behave in a particular manner but whenever they get a feeling that they are not being watched, they do as they are born with i.e. their natural instinct which has an animal inside. Instead of calling them animals I am giving them a more refined name ‘PEOPLE’.

People have a ‘mob mentality‘, when they are together they behave, as animal herd behaves, instead of thinking and choosing the right way, they move in the direction of the mob as animals do in a herd.

The herd needs to be led by dogs beside it, same is true for a leader, he either has to lead from the front or act as a watchdog so that the people following him are under his command and control and behave, as they are told.  Though at times having control on a mob is way too difficult even for a leader.

PEOPLE are trained to become MAN through training, making use of the IQ they have been bestowed with. The journey from PEOPLE to MAN is a two way traffic, why is that so, because the moment PEOPLE come to realize that they are not being watched, they behave as ANIMALS, so they need to be trained (educated) on a continuous basis so that by virtue of continuous learning they should develop in themselves the capability to leave that vicious circle of selfish behavior (mob mentality) and become MAN.

In a nut shell, to cover the journey from PEOPLE to MAN, making use of the IQ available to PEOPLE, they be trained to become MAN.

The journey continues…..

As said earlier, the journey from PEOPLE to MAN is a two way traffic, so there is always a possibility that MAN can become part of PEOPLE, if he does not intentionally try to remain MAN. It is an arduous journey, specially remaining in the position of MAN.

Those of us who manage to acquire education, they develop in themselves a tendency to remain in the position of MAN and most of them continue to be MAN till the end of their life unless they get some kind of inspiration and some solace from the shackles of earning livelihood for themselves and their families.

Middle management or the tactical management is the position where they (MEN) are given opportunities for training to develop emotional quotient (EQ). Basically the people who train these managers were previously called trainers but actually they are supposed to be inspirers. This inspiration develops in them emotional stability and based on this capability they are more in control of their emotions then any one around. For which the inspirer (trainer) has to be more in control of his emotions, only then can he be an inspiration for the attendees of his session.

This EQ acquired through inspiration leads MAN to the level of a HUMAN. Now he instead of thinking more about himself, he is concerned with the PEOPLE around him. But his concern is more self-centered, as he likes to be portrayed as a thorough HUMAN. He is only willing to give what is extra, he will first try to fulfill his own needs and wants, and what is left, he will share part of it and save the rest for the rainy days.

There is no harm in it as long as his self-centeredness is not harming PEOPLE around him. By continuously being in the position of HUMAN and making enough out of his available resources and potentials, he comes to realize the fact that life is not what he is seeing, life is beyond. That’s the point where he comes to understand the true meaning of life that life is not something living for oneself, it is loving, caring and sharing with others. This realization culminates only when he starts giving to the PEOPLE rather than taking from them.

He starts sharing everything what he has, irrespective of any reciprocation, that’s the stage of self-actualization, which elates a MAN from the level of HUMAN to HUMAN BEING. This is where he comes to realize the fact, what differentiates him from PEOPLE to MAN and from MAN to HUMAN and from HUMAN to HUMAN BEING.

The word HUMAN is a combination of MAN and HUMILITY and when a MAN becomes HUMAN and realizes the purpose of BEING alive, makes him a HUMAN BEING, which develops in him spiritual quotient (SQ), which gets him close to Almighty Allah when HE instead of asking the MAN to do what HE likes, asks the MAN his wish, so that HE can fulfill his desires.
